Mai Tai

by

This recipe is most widely credited to Victor Jules Bergeron a.k.a. Trader Vic. Victor tested his new drink on a friend from Tahiti, who exclaimed, "Mai Tai-Roa Ae", (out of this world - the best!). Originally the concoction was made with a 17 yo Jamaican rum, lime juice almond syrup, orange curacao and so-called rock candy syrup (practically sugar syrup). Today many variants exist on this classic Tiki cocktail, but we like it simple and as close as possible to the original recipe.

Glass:

Garnish: Half a lime with a cherry, pineapple wedge and mint spring

Ingredients:

  •  25 ml Jamaican dark rum
  •  25 ml light rum
  •  15 ml Orange Curacao
  •  25 ml lime juice
  •  15 ml almond syrup
  •  5 ml sugar syrup

Method: Combine all ingredients in a Boston glass (shaker), fill up with ice and shake. Strain into the glass filled with crushed ice.
